David Goggins, quando la motivazione ti cambia la vita!
David Goggins è un Navy Seal che non ha mai fatto mistero del suo disamore per la corsa.
Navy Seal dal 2001, nel 2004 si è diplomato alla scuola Army Ranger con il titolo di “Top Man Honor”. Di base a Coronado, California, ha avuto incarichi operativi in Afghanistan e in Iraq.
Nel 2005, un elicottero dei Navy Seal ha un incidente durante un’operazione in Afghanistan e alcuni suoi compagni e amici perdono la vita. Da allora, David inizia a partecipare a Ultramaratone davvero estreme per raccogliere fondi per le famiglie delle vittime.
Nel 2006 gareggia nel suo primo triathlon e arriva secondo usando una bici in affitto e senza attacchini. David è anche un Ironman finisher.
Quando ha iniziato a gareggiare pesava 127Kg e correva 20 minuti a giorni alterni, ma aveva la fiducia incrollabile, o, come dice lui, l’arroganza di credere di potercela fare. Nonostante le numerose fratture da stress, proprio per il peso eccessivo e la mancanza di allenamento adeguato, non ha mai pensato di arrendersi.
In pochissimo tempo è riuscito a ottenere risultati che per molti sarebbero irraggiungibili in una vita intera. E tutto questo continuando a lavorare.
“Grazie alla corsa e al triathlon ho capito chi sono veramente e quanto in alto posso mettere la barra dei mie standard” – afferma David – “Alzarmi la mattina presto per uscire a fare qualcosa che non mi piaceva ha messo fortemente alla prova la mia motivazione. ”
La sua giornata inizia alle 3 del mattino in modo da avere il tempo di svolgere il suo allenamento; quindi prende la bici, pedala per 40 km e per le 7 è alla base dei Navy Seals per iniziare a lavorare. A volte riesce a fare una corsa nella pausa pranzo, altre no e comunque la sera ripedala un’altra volta per 40 km per fare ritorno a casa.
Ora pesa 83 kg ed è impegnato attivamente nell’educare i ragazzi a uno stile di vita salutare.
Con le sue imprese continua a raccogliere soldi per le famiglie di Rangers, Berretti Verdi, Navy Seals, spinto dalla volontà di restituire un po’ di tutto quello che ha ricevuto facendone parte.
